Spraying steel structural members with a fire-resistant coating of asbestos fibers mixed with cement and water. Used on structures prior to 1986, then banned and removed from any structure where it presented a health risk, or when renovating a structure containing the material.

Asbestos fibers intermixed with bonding and adhesive ingredients; applied to surfaces such as structural beams with a spray gun; serves primarily as fire protection. The use of this material is no longer permitted in the United States because of its carcinogenic effects.
