Post, Emily (b. Price)

(1872–1960) authority on etiquette; born in Baltimore, Md. Daughter of a wealthy New York architect, she wrote society fiction and essays before writing her classic Etiquette—The Blue Book of Social Usage (1922). In her ten editions of Etiquette, and her syndicated etiquette column and radio show, she defined good manners for millions of Americans, dispensing relaxed yet serious advice that was striking in its flexible response to changing social mores.
