panproctocolectomy

(pan″prok″tō-kŏ-lek′tŏ-mē) [ pan- + procto- + colectomy] Surgical removal of the entire large intestine, from the anus, to the rectum, and the length of the large bowel. It is a treatment for severe cases of inflammatory bowel disease and is followed by the creation of an ileostomy.
