Panku
Panku
tanp’iku; a Chinese one-sided drum. The thick-walled body of the panku is shaped like an overturned cup and has a small opening in the top, across which a skin membrane is stretched. The instrument stands on a tripod. Sound is produced by beating the panku with two sticks. The panku is used in folk music, in ensembles, and in theatrical orchestras, in which the panku player is also the conductor.
