upper bright band

[′əp·ər ′brīt ‚band] (meteorology) A level of enhanced radar echo occasionally observed at a higher altitude than the bright band of the melting level; it is attributable to the growth of a layer of ice crystals in a supercooled cloud into snow pellets. Also known as radar upper band; upper band.
