Umba
an urban-type settlement and administrative center of Terskii Raion, Murmansk Oblast, RSFSR. Umba, a port on the White Sea, is situated at the point where the Umba River flows into Kandalaksha Bay, 127 km southeast of the Kandalaksha railroad station on the Murmansk-Leningrad line. It has a logging and timber distribution establishment, a fish hatchery, and a fishpacking plant.

a river in Murmansk Oblast, RSFSR. The Umba measures 123 km in length and drains an area of 6,250 sq km. It originates at Lake Umbozero and flows through the Kapustnye lakes, Lake Kanozero (downstream from which it branches into three streams), and Lake Ponchozero; it empties into Kandalaksha Bay of the White Sea. The Umba is fed by snow and rain and has many rapids. High water is from May through November. The mean flow rate is 78.2 cu m per sec. The river freezes in late October to mid-December, and the ice breaks up in May or June.
The Umba is used for rafting timber and as a water runoff from Lake Indel’, which lies in the Varzuga River basin. Atlantic salmon spawn in the Umba. The river is used for boating.
