Ulvi Radzhab

Born January 1903 near Batumi; died 1937. Azerbaijani Soviet actor.

In 1918, Ul’vi Radzhab began performing with an Azerbaijani troupe headed by G. Arablinskii, and in 1922 he joined the Azerbaijani theater in Tbilisi. In 1925 he became one of the leading actors of the M. Azizbekov Azerbaijani Theater in Baku. Ul’vi Radzhab’s acting combined profound realism with romantic ardor. Particularly outstanding were his portrayals of the title roles in Shakespeare’s Othello and Hamlet, Romeo in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, and Franz Moor in Schiller’s The Robbers. Among his best roles in Russian and Azerbaijani plays were Satin in Gorky’s The Lower Depths, the title role in Korneichuk’s Platon Krechet, the title roles in G. Dzhavid’s Siiavush and Sheikh Senan, Akshin in Dzhabarly’s Bride of the Fire, and the title role in Dzhabarly’s Iashar.
