Ulutau

Ulutau

 

a low-mountain massif in the southwestern Kazakh Melkosopochnik. Elevations range up to 1,133 m. The Ulutau is composed primarily of granites. The slopes are bare and rocky and are dissected by the gorges of intermittent streams. Steppe grasses, wormwood, and shrubs belonging to the genus Ephedra grow in rock crevices. Other shrubs are found in taluses.
