Roberts, Owen J.

Roberts, Owen J. (Josephus)

(1875–1955) Supreme Court justice; born in Philadelphia. He gained prominence when President Calvin Coolidge appointed him to prosecute in the Teapot Dome oil scandal (1924). President Herbert Hoover named him to the U.S. Supreme Court (1930–45). He retired from the court and became dean of the University of Pennsylvania Law School (1948–51).
