Port, Mart Ianovich

 

Born Jan. 4, 1922, in Pärnu. Soviet architect. Honored Art Worker of the Estonian SSR (1965).

Port attended the Tallinn Polytechnic Institute in 1940 and 1941 and again from 1945 to 1950. He has taught at the Art Institute of the Estonian SSR since 1961 and has been the chairman of the Architects’ Union of the Estonian SSR since 1955. In Tallinn, Port collaborated with others on the planning of the residential districts of Mustamäe (1963–74) and Lasnamäe (since 1964), the building of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Estonian SSR (1968), and the Hotel Viru (1972; State Prize of the Estonian SSR, 1972). He also participated in the development of a general plan for Tallinn (approved in 1971).

Port is the recipient of two orders and various medals.
