Palm BeachPalm Beach,town (1990 pop. 9,814), Palm Beach co., SE Fla., on a barrier beach between the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Worth (a lagoon); inc. 1911. It is a well-known resort of the wealthy, with many fine estates, luxurious hotels, and yachting facilities. In the winter its population expands to much larger numbers. The town was settled during the 1870s, but not until the arrival (1893) of developer Henry M. FlaglerFlagler, Henry Morrison,1830–1913, American financier and real-estate developer, b. Palm Beacha seaside resort on the Atlantic coast of the USA (in Florida), 107 km north of Miami. Population, 9,000 (1970). Palm Beach is bounded on the west by Lake Worth. Its climate is mild, owing to the Gulf Stream. The average temperature from June to September is 26°C. The average temperature in January ranges from 16° to 21°C.
