Location:Off TN 143, 16 miles south of Elizabethton.
Facilities:107 campsites (including 20 tent only sites), group camp, 30 cabins, picnic areas, pavilions, hiking trails, swimming pool, game courts, playfield, playgrounds, conference center.
Activities:Camping, fishing, swimming, hiking, backpacking, tennis, interpretive programs.
Special Features:Park is situated at the base of Roan Mountain (6,285 feet). Atop the mountain is a 600-acre natural rhododendron garden, which blooms with pink and purple blossoms during the summer. The 2,144-mile Appalachian Trail (see entry in national trails section) crosses Roan Mountain in the adjoining Cherokee National Forest (see entry in national forests section).
