释义 | Radford, ArthurRadford, Arthur (William)(1896–1973) naval officer; born in Chicago. He commanded a carrier group that played a notable role in the Gilbert and Marshall Islands campaigns. He was vice-chief of naval operations (1948–49) and commander of the Pacific Fleet (1949–53). He protested what he saw as a reduction of the navy's importance and was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (1953–57). |
