[′sek·ənd ¦ȯr·dər ′səb·rü‚tēn] (computer science) A subroutine that is entered from another subroutine, in contrast to a first-order subroutine; it constitutes the second level of a two-level or higher-level routine. Also known as second-remove subroutine.
