Pakhra
a river in Moscow Oblast, RSFSR, a right tributary of the Moskva (Volga basin). It is 135 km long and drains an area of 2,580 sq km. The Pakhra is a meandering river fed primarily by snow. There is high water between late March and early May. The mean flow rate 36 km from the mouth is 9.95 cu m per sec. The river freezes in November or December and the ice breaks up in late March or in April. The main tributaries are the Mocha on the right and the Desna on the left. The settlement of Gorki Leninskie and the city of Podol’sk are situated on the Pakhra. The river is a tourist site.
