Secondary Uses Service Programme

An IT programme which supports the NHS and its partners by providing a single source of comprehensive data for the following areas: healthcare planning, commissioning services, public health, management, research, audit, national policy development and for Payment by Results (a reimbursement mechanism for acute care payments).
NHS Connecting for Health is responsible for procuring and managing the contractual and technical delivery of SUS to support end-user needs. The NHS Information Centre for health and social care has overall responsibility for delivering the SUS to users, Commissioners and Providers of NHS funded care.
