secondary action

a form of INDUSTRIAL ACTION in which a group of employees STRIKE or take some other action against their employer, as a means of putting pressure on another employer currently engaged in an industrial dispute with his or her workforce. By taking industrial action, the provision of goods and services from the one employer to the employer in dispute can be disrupted. The Employment Act 1980 made secondary action lawful only when the firms involved had contracts with each other.

The Employment Act 1990 made all secondary action unlawful.
