Splitfoot, Mr.
“Splitfoot, Mr.“
(religion, spiritualism, and occult)“Mr. Splitfoot” was the name given by Katie Fox, one of the Fox Sisters, to the spirit that later came to be identified as Charles B. Rosna, the peddler who was murdered in the Fox Cottage. The name probably derives from the child’s thoughts of the Christian devil with its cloven hooves. According to a statement made by the girl’s mother, Mrs. Margaret Fox, on the night of Friday, March 31, 1848, “My youngest child, Cathie, said ‘Mr. Splitfoot, do as I do,’ clapping her hands. The sound instantly followed her with the same number of raps.”
