Rabochii Put

Rabochii Put’

(Workers’ Path), a legal daily newspaper, an organ of the Central Committee of the RSDLP(B); one of the names of Pravda, which was persecuted by the bourgeois Provisional Government.

Rabochii put’ was published in Petrograd, in the Trud (Labor) printing works, from Sept. 3(16) through Oct. 26 (Nov. 8), 1917. A total of 46 issues appeared, and the circulation exceeded 100,000 copies. The editorial board included V. Volodarskii, G. Ia. Sokol’nikov, and J. V. Stalin; also participating in the newspaper’s work were V. P. Miliutin, M. A. Savel’ev, K. N. Samoilova, Ia. M. Sverdlov, N. A. Skrypnik, and M. S. Uritskii. The newspaper published nine articles by V. I. Lenin.

On October 24 (November 6), the Provisional Government issued an order to close down Rabochii put’. A detachment of cadets made an armed raid on the printing works and seized it. By a decision of the Central Committee of the RSDLP(B) and an order of the Military Revolutionary Committee, Red Guards and revolutionary soldiers drove the cadets away. One issue of Rabochii put’ published an appeal to overthrow the Provisional Government. The last issue (no. 46) printed Lenin’s address “To the Citizens of Russia!” announcing the victory of the October Socialist Revolution. Beginning on October 27 (November 9), the newspaper appeared under the former name of Pravda.
