Rizospastis

(rhizospastes, the Greek word for “radical”), a daily newspaper and organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (CPG). Published since Aug. 1, 1921, it replaced the weekly CPG newspaper Ergatikos agon, which had been published since November 1918. Rizospastis was banned and was published illegally in 1925 and 1926 and’ from 1936 to 1944 and from 1947 to 1974. It has been published legally in Athens since September 1974. Circulation, approximately 50,000 (1976).
