Skazka

a type of official document in 17th- and 18th-century Russia. Skazki were transcriptions of oral nonjudicial testimony given in state institutions, including reports by officials on the fulfillment of assignments and reports by merchants on their transactions and affairs.

The civil judicial system made use of stavochnye (strochnye) skazki—signed statements by otvetchiki (defendants) indicating the period of time within which they wished their case to be decided. The courts also utilized peresrochnye (poliubovnye) skazki, joint statements in which plaintiffs and defendants agreed to drop their case.
