Thomson, Peter William,

1929–2018, Australian golfer. A leading player in European tournaments at a time when Australians had not yet emerged as top golfers, Thomson had a compact swing and efficient game well-suited to hard, fast-running British links, and he won five British Opens, nine New Zealand Opens, and three Australian Opens. He also designed over 100 golf courses, was instrumental in developing professional golf in Asia, and was president (1962–94) of the Australian PGA.
