Waddell signs Waddell signs (wad′ĕl, wa-del′) [Gordon Waddell, Scottish orthopedic surgeon] Any of a group of clinical tests occasionally used to identify patients whose back pain is not organic, i.e., more likely to be of psychological origin. The signs were once thought to discriminate patients who were malingering or seeking disability from those who had disk disease or back strain. The signs have not proved to be sensitive or specific when studied carefully. |
