Tenggerese


Tenggerese

 

a Javanese ethnic group living in the Tengger Mountains in the eastern part of the island of Java. The Tenggerese language has preserved the old Javanese vocabulary. The religion of the Tenggerese is Hinduism, with elements of Buddhism and animism. The Tenggerese live in villages arranged in terraces on the mountain slopes. Their main occupations are the cultivation of corn, cassava, and vegetables and livestock raising.
