Polystichum
Polystichum a genus of ferns of the family Aspidiaceae. They are terrestrial, rhizomatous plants, usually having stiff, leathery fronds. The sori (clusters of sporangia) are orbicular and, for the most part, have an indusium—a peltate covering. The approximately 175 species of Polystichum are widely distributed. Seven or eight species are found in the USSR, growing in forests and on rocks. Some species are grown as ornamentals in the open ground and in greenhouses. The plants are propa-gated from spores or rhizomes.
