Třeboň Altar, Master of the

a painter who worked in Bohemia in the last third of the 14th century; representative of the soft style of late Gothic art.

The most important work attributed to the master is the altar for a church in the city of Třeboň, South Bohemia Region (c. 1390; National Gallery, Prague). The altar is noted for its refined rendering of emotion by means of color and line and for the subtle, lyrically expressive gestures of the main figures.
