Structural Model
Structural Model
in structural mechanics, a simplified representation of a structure used for design purposes. Several types of structural models are distinguished according to the basic hypotheses underlying the design and the mathematical apparatus employed in the design process. The more exactly a structural model corresponds to the actual structure, the more laborious are the calculations involved. The selection of a structural model to some extent reflects the current level of development of structural mechanics and the skill of the executor. Another factor affecting the selection is the availability of computer equipment.
