Poltinnik

Poltinnik

a Russian coin worth 50 kopeks. Its name originated from the Old Russian monetary unit the poltina (from pol,”half,” and tin’,”ruble”). First issued in 1654 as a copper coin, the poltinnik was minted in silver under the same standards as the ruble in 1701, in the reign of Peter I, and was produced until 1915. Gold poltinniks, with a gold content of 0.8–0.6 g, were minted in 1777–78.

The USSR minted silver poltinniks between 1921 and 1927 and has minted poltinniks made of nickel silver since 1961.
