Polomet

a river in Novgorod Oblast, RSFSR, a right tributary of the Pola River (Lake Il’men’ basin). The Polomet’ is 150 km long and drains an area of 2,770 sq km. It originates in Lake Russkoe (area, 2.4 sq km) in the Valdai Hills. The river is fed primarily by snow. The mean flow rate 120 km from the mouth is 7.74 cu m per sec. Timber is floated on the river. In the upper course there are experimental installations of the Valdai Laboratory of the State Hydrologie Institute.
