Pollack, Mihály

Born Aug. 30, 1773, in Vienna; died Jan. 5, 1855, in Pest. Hungarian architect of the classical school.

Pollack studied at the Viennese Academy of Arts. From 1799 he lived in Pest. His numerous buildings in Budapest, including a Lutheran church (1799), a private house (1822), and a military academy (1829–35), determined in many ways the Hungarian capital’s new appearance, which took shape in the 19th century. Pollack’s most significant work in the majestic building of the National Museum in Budapest.
