  1. the apparatus of government and the general arrangements for political decisionmaking within a society.
  2. the subsystem of the SOCIAL SYSTEM which PARSONS identifies as concerned with ‘goal attainment’, i.e. establishing policies for society and setting the main collective goals for society and for other main subsystems of society (see Fig. 24), from which it also receives ‘inputs’.
