political socialization
political socialization
the process in any society in which the acquisition and internalization of political norms, values and beliefs occurs; the acquisition of POLITICAL CULTURE.The study of political socialization, including child socialization, has been particularly important in those branches of political science and political sociology which have emphasized the role of political culture in the stability of POLITICAL SYSTEMS. Research into child political socialization faces significant problems. While a direct empirical study of the place of political ideas in child socialization has sometimes been possible, much research has of necessity had to rely on less reliable data based on adult recall of child socialization or on documentary evidence. see also AUTHORITARIAN PERSONALITY.
