Riobambaa city in western Ecuador; located in the Andes, on the Pan American Highway; capital of Chimborazo Province. Population, 53,700 (1970). There is a railroad station in Riobamba. The city is a commercial center of an agricultural region where there is pasture livestock breeding and grain growing. There are textile, food-processing, and footwear enterprises in Riobamba. |
