Size: 1,120 acres.
Established: Proclaimed on December 19, 1907; transferred from Forest Service on August 10, 1933.
Location:110 miles east of Phoenix, Arizona, and 4 miles east of Roosevelt Dam. Accessible via AZ 88/188 west from Globe, AZ 188 east from AZ 87 (Beeline Hwy.), or AZ 88 (Apache Trail) beginning at Apache Junction.
Facilities:Picnic area, rest rooms (é), visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail. Entrance fee required.
Activities:Hiking, ranger-led tours.
Special Features:These well-preserved cliff dwellings were occupied during the 13th, 14th, and early 15th centuries by the Salado Culture who farmed the Salt River Basin.
