Queen Maud Range

a mountain range located in the central section of the Transantarctic Mountains in Antarctica. It stretches from the upper part of the Beardmore Glacier for a distance of almost 400 km. A considerable number of the range’s summits rise above 2,500-3,000 m. Queen Maud Range is composed of an Upper Proterozoic slate-graywacke stratum, with lava extensively developed in the upper part. Higher up there are Paleozoic platform deposits of the Beacon group. The range was discovered in 1911 by the Norwegian antarctic expedition of R. Amundsen and was named after the Norwegian queen.
