Adrar Des Iforas

Adrar Des Iforas

plateau in the southern Sahara, in Mali. The plateau is composed of ancient granites. Average elevation is 700 m (highest elevation, up to 1000 m). The valleys, or wadis, which contain ground waters, are covered with drought-resisting grasses; in the water-catching mountain craters and downstream areas there are savannas. The summits are covered by mountainous deserts. The inhabitants of Adrar raise camels and zebus and grow wheat, tobacco, peppers, and onions in the rare oases. A caravan road from Algeria to Mali passes through Adrar.
