Overseas Private Investment Corporation

A federal agency (www.opic.gov) established in 1971 to assist American businesses desiring to invest overseas.It provides medium- to long-term funding for projects in developing countries and emerging markets, including housing, hotels, airports, and natural resource extraction. It also provides political risk insurance for currency inconvertibility, expropriation, and political violence. The corporation is self-funding through fees for services and uses no taxpayer money.
