Temnik

 

a river in the Buriat ASSR; a left tributary of the Selenga River. The Temnik is 314 km long and drains an area of 5,480 sq km. It flows in a broad valley between the Khamar-Daban and Malyi Khamar-Daban ranges; branches of the lower Temnik connect the river with Lake Gusinoe. The river is fed mainly by rain; freshets occur in the period from May to September. The mean flow rate 59 km from the mouth is 29 cu m per sec. The Temnik freezes in October or November and opens up in late April or in May.
