Quartermaster’s rule Quartermaster’s ruleOne of several formulas for estimating the volume of haystacks, and one of the more accurate. First, add together the width of the stack and the distance from the ground on one side of the stack, over the stack and down to the ground on the other side. Then, divide that number by four, square the result, and multiply the result by the length of the stack to give the volume of the stack in cubic feet. For other formulae, see the Fowl rule, the Frye-Bruhn rule, and the Outlaw rule. |
