Travianka

in Russian entomology, a member of a group of insect species from the genera Stenobothrus and Omocestus, of the superfamily Acrididae. The body measures 1–3 cm in length. The elytra and wings are well developed, rarely being shortened. The insects live in grass stands of meadows and steppes, while in the desert zone they are found in oases and fringing forests. They feed mainly on grasses. There are more than 50 species, which are distributed in Europe, Asia, and North Africa; in the USSR there are 27 species. The most widespread species are Stenobothrus nigromaculatus, Stenobothrus lineatus, and Omocestus haemorrhoidalis, which sometimes damage cereal grains and other plants.
