an urban-type settlement and administrative center of Evenki Autonomous Okrug, Krasnoiarsk Krai, RSFSR. Located on the Nizhniaia Tunguska River, at its confluence with the Kochechum. Population, 5,100 (1976). Tura, a very important transshipment base, has a logging and timber distribution establishment and a base of the Scientific Research Institute of the Agriculture of the Far North. The settlement also has a medical school and a museum of local lore.

(also Dolgaia), a river in Sverdlovsk and Tiumen’ Oblasts, RSFSR; a left tributary of the Tobol River of the Ob’ River basin. The Tura is 1,030 km long and drains an área of 80,400 sq km. It rises in the Central Urals and flows across the Western Siberian Plain. It is fed primarily by snow. High water occurs between April and July. The mean flow rate 184 km from the mouth is 177 cu m per sec. The greatest flow rate is 3,330 cu m per sec (in May), and the slowest, 8.6 eu m per sec (in late March). The Tura freezes in late October or in November and opens up in April or the first half of May. The chief tributaries are the Salda, Tagil, Nitsa, and Pyshma rivers, on the right. The river is used for floating timber and is navigable for a distance of 753 km from the mouth. Three reservoirs, having a combined area of 23 sq km, are located on the Tura, as are the cities of Verkhniaia Tura, Nizhniaia Tura, Verkhotur’e, Turinsk, and Tiumen’.
