Neftel’s disease

A condition described by WB Neftel (1830–1906) that is characterised by paraesthesias of the head and trunk with extreme pain in any but the recumbent position; it may have represented a gamut of neurological diseases—e.g., neurosyphilis, vitamin B12 deficiency, subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, as well as others.
