Orlov Printing
Orlov Printing
a method of single-run multicolor printing used in the reproduction of government banknotes. It was invented by I. I. Orlov in 1890. The technique makes possible reproduction of a surface or line that changes color without interruption of its continuity. The Orlov method consists in the formation of separate layers of ink on color-separated plates and the transfer of the inks to a common plate and then to the receiving surface. A unique kind of reproduction—single-run color engraving—can be achieved using the Orlov method. The Orlov method was protected by patents taken out in Russia, Germany, Great Britain, and other countries from 1897 to 1899. In Russia, machinery for Orlov printing was built by M. D. Rudometov, P. E. Pavlov, and I. E. Struzhkov.
