Maki, Fumihiko Maki, Fumihiko (1928–)Major figure in Japanese architecture since the late 1950s. A member of the Metabolist movement, a group that advocated the embrace of new technology with a belief in architecture’s organic, humanistic qualities. He was awarded the Pritzker Prize in 1993. U.S. projects include the Center for the Arts, Yerba Buena Gardens, in San Francisco, CA and numerous projects in his native Tokyo. |
