a family of beetles. The body is 1–6 mm long and has a metallic shine. It is widely distributed. There are about 2,000 species, about 500 of them in the USSR. Nitidulidae include herbivorous forms that are harmful to crops (for example, the European pollen beetle, which attacks Cruciferae), predatory forms that destroy harmful insects, such as the larvae of bark beetles, and also forms that live on carrion.
