Established: Authorized on October 31, 1994.
Location:A temporary visitor center is located in the French Quarter at 916 N. Peters, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Facilities:Work is underway to develop permanent facilities at historic Armstrong Park bordering North Rampart St., Orleans Ave., North Villere, and St. Phillip. The complex, located at the northern edge of the French Quarter, will be renovated into a visitor center with exhibits, park headquarters, performance venue, education classrooms, and a resource center.
Activities:Interpretive activities include musical performances, ranger-led demonstrations and talks, lectures, films, and exhibits on a wide variety of jazz-related topics. A walking tour of significant historical jazz sites in the French Quarter is held a few times per month (by reservation).
Special Features:Park interprets jazz as it has evolved in New Orleans and assists a range of organizations involved with jazz and its history.
