Established: 1955, as Snake Creek National Wildlife Refuge.
Location:In west-central North Dakota, on the south side of Lake Audubon.
Facilities:Visitor center, viewing sites, hiking trails, auto tour route (7.5 miles), observation blind.
Activities:Fishing, ice fishing, hunting, educational programs.
Special Features:The refuge serves as an important feeding and resting area for waterfowl migrating in the Central Flyway. Nearby Lake Sakakawea and two state parks provide recreational opportunities including camping, picnicking, boating, and fishing.
Habitats: 14,735 total acres includes 10,421-acre Lake Audubon, 100 small islands in the lake, wetlands, and mixed-grass prairie.
Access: Open year round during daylight hours.
Wild life: Sharp-tailed grouse, giant Canada goose, white pelican, mallard, teal, pintail, ring-necked pheasant, partridge, and white-tailed deer, painted turtle.
