Ismail, Abdul Fattah
Born in 1939 in the city of Aden. Government and political figure of the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen (PDRY). He was trained as an educator, and he taught in Aden schools. He was one of the creators (1963) of the National Front for the Liberation of Occupied South Yemen (later the National Liberation Front, NLF), and in its ranks he actively participated in the national-liberation movement of the people of Southern Yemen. After Southern Yemen won its independence (1967), he held a number of positions in the NLF leadership and in the government. In June 1969 he became secretary-general of the NLF and a member of the Presidential Council. In May 1971 he also became chairman of the Supreme People’s Council of the PDRY.
