Nishapur Mountains

 

mountains in northeastern Iran, the southern belt of the Turkmeno-Khurasan Mountains. Length, approximately 350 km; elevations, to 3,314 m (Mount Kangzushk). The Nishapur Mountains consist of several ranges separated by broad valleys. They are composed of limestones and sandstones with outcrops of porphyrite and granite intrusions. Sections of the terrain are badlands. There are thermal springs and a turquoise deposit in the mountains. Above the submontane deserts are semideserts (gray desert soils) and mountain steppes (brown soils).
