Bashkirov, Andrei Nikolaevich
Born Dec. 9 (22), 1903, in Nizhny Novgorod. Soviet organic chemist and technological engineer. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1958).
Bashkirov graduated from the D. I. Mendeleev Moscow Chemical-Technological Institute (1929). He directs the laboratories of the Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (since 1946) and the institute’s Department of Fine Chemical Technology (since 1943). Bashkirov’s principal works are devoted to studies in the area of the chemistry and technology of fuel and petrochemical synthesis, particularly the oxidation of carbohydrates and synthesis on a base of CO and H2. He has been awarded two orders, as well as medals.
